The Three Essential Life Skills
There are three skills necessary for a rich, full life. If you are not strong in these skills, they can be learned and strengthened. They are essential for a satisfying, well-connected life.
Here are the three:
Be Present
You only get to live one day at a time. How will you live today—awake, alive, engaged?
Are you present to what is right in front of you?
Are you curious, attentive, and open to learning?
Do others experience you as a peaceful, interested presence?
Love Well
Loving well means becoming skilled at love.
Love includes giving, patience, restraint, and genuine concern for others. To love well is to live well. Love is the universal language of connection. Being made in the image of God means you are designed to live from love.
Grieve Well
Life is full of loss and disappointment. Learning to grieve well is an essential life skill. Every hurt and every let-down requires grieving, followed by honest acceptance and adjustment. We grieve so that we can accept reality, integrate loss, and move forward with wisdom and compassion.
Closing
We all want to be successful at life. But life is confusing. It is full of twists and turns. It’s easy to get lost in the noise and miss what matters most. These three skills help cut through the confusion and bring focus.
Prayer
Father, You are always present, and for that I thank You. You are love—teach me to love like You. Your Word shows that You grieve deeply, and yet You remain faithful. Help me grow in these three skills.
Amen.
