If you don’t understand fear, it will confuse and torment you for a lifetime. Here is my explanation of inner emotional fear.
Note- This discussion is limited and only includes thoughts about childhood, emotions and failure.
Fear is an inner warning system. You created it. Its only power is to warn you of danger. It may be loud and scary, but it has only one purpose. It exists to warn you of emotional trouble ahead.
Growing up, dad got angry and vented his pain on you. Mom was disappointed and she expressed hurt. Brothers and sisters may have laughed at you. Friends and bullies may have called you names. To protect yourself you created a fear-warning system. Because you learned when you fail, rejection follows. Rejection is miserable.
Let’s walk through the formation of your fear-warning system:
- Negative childhood experiences brought you pain.
- You used that pain to create a fear-warning system.
- Now, in emotionally dangerous moments your fear rises up. It can be so intense you feel overwhelmed. But it’s just fear warning you.
- Fear, your inner voice, screams. “Don’t risk. You will fail. It will turn out very badly. Someone will be upset and vent their pain and disappointment all over you.”
Fear concludes. Then these two horrifying feelings will be released from deep in your soul. YOU FAILED! And, YOU ARE A FAILURE!

Fear whispers, screams and runs around shouting. “You will fail, and you will be rejected. No one will want you.”
Prayer
Father, thank you for your never-ending love. Thank you for calling me your beloved. Thank you for choosing me. Help me quiet my fear. Help me run on your love and acceptance today. Amen.
Bible
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7 (NAS1995)
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control]. – 2 Timothy 1:7 (AMP)
