Equipping Christian Men for Richer Relationships

The Sadness Doorway

Why enter the emotion of sadness? What good comes from sadness? How could it ever be good to be sad? And, what if my fear comes true and I get lost in sadness?

Growing up, sad always meant bad. Bad things, bad words, and bad actions. Sad and bad have been two things to avoid.

A friend stated, “I hate sadness. I feel powerless in sadness. How would I navigate my way through sadness? It’s better to just to be busy or distracted. Now, I’m being told I must learn to sit in sadness. Why?”

There are critical lessons you can only learn in sadness. Through sadness you’ll discover the deep pain that lives inside a person’s soul. You’ll learn how they’ve been wounded, abused, or neglected. You’ll hear deep fearful beliefs like, No one wants me. I don’t know where I belong. I’m different. I struggle to fit in. I did bad and I am bad.

Pain and fear live in the deepest part of the soul. Sadness is the doorway into that deep place. If you are slow, soft, and kind, you may be allowed inside. As an ambassador of Heaven, you can deliver the gifts of love, acceptance, and healing. How? Because you bring the presence of Abba, Jesus, Holy Comforter, and your own warm, kind, self. Just those presences will change the soul of another.

Prayer

Abba, please give me your wisdom and walk with me inside the souls of those I love. I lay down fear today. Thank you for the power to set captives free. Just as you have set me free. Amen.

Bible Connection

The spirit of the Lord is upon me, and he had anointed me to be hope for the poor, freedom for the brokenhearted and new eyes for the blind, and to preach to prisoners, ‘You are set free!’
Luke 4:18 (TPT)
