I prayed that God would change my wife. She has flaws and shortcomings. There are blind spots, and her self-discipline is poor. After saying that prayer, God went to work. He started changing me.
There would be no waiting around for her to change. God went right to work. He reminded me of how patient, forgiving, and merciful he has been towards me.
I wanted God to change my wife, and I wanted him to do it fast. But I’m learning He is also the God of “Go slow and Grow deep.” He’s not in a hurry and he’s not going to be told what to do. He’s going to walk alongside me. And He will help me see things previously unseen.
God also reminds us. Love is kind. Love is patient. As God was growing me, my wife was watching. Suddenly she started making small steps of change. I learned if one spouse is patient, kind, and growing, it’s easier to follow.
Why this Works
I’m giving God all the glory for our growth and change. He reminded me of this quote from Systems Theory. “If one party changes, the other party must also change.”
Prayer
Father, thank you for your wisdom. Thank you for growth and change. And thank you for loving me through it all. Amen.
Bible
Love is patient, love is kind.
