A friend recently shared these thoughts. He stated. “Emotionally, I’m doing so much better. That is except when the FEAR-OF-FAILURE, NOT-BEING-GOOD-ENOUGH SPIRALING DOWN CYCLE occurs. It’s an emotional program that lives in my soul. It is very old. Like, childhood old. It has followed me through teen years, my young married life, and now into midlife.
“You could explain it this way: A small failure occurs and then the cycle gets triggered. When I fight on my own, the cycle often causes me to spiral out of control. Some individuals might call it a stronghold. Others would call it a core fear. It could be labeled a trauma response. Whatever you call it, it’s an old hold out battle that lives in my soul.
“Today, things change.
- I am giving the cycle a name. Naming it makes it more understandable. I’m labeling it so I can learn more about it. (The name is capitalized letters above.)
- I’m talking about it and bringing it out of the darkness and into the light.
- I will fear this cycle no more. I may win or I may lose but I will no longer fear the cycle.
- When it shows up, I will bring it to the center of my attention. Then I will ask Father, Son and Holy Spirit to surround me. I will breathe slowly, then repeat, I am a new creation in Christ.”
Prayer
Father, help me with this emotional battle. I make you Lord over this cycle. My old, scared boy is asking, “if I fail am I still good enough to be loved”? Please help me remember I am a new, loved creation and part of your family. Amen.
Bible
Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, the new has come into me.
