There are generally two types of people. And, three types of marriages.
Here are the two types of spouses, The ATTACHERS and the DETACHERS.
The ATTACHERS wants to be close.
They love:
- Emotional conversations
- Being close
- Digging in deeper
- Hearing your heart
- Comforting one another
- Being one
The DETACHERS prefer a little distance.
They tend to:
- Only get so close
- Keep some emotional distance
- Be nice, friendly, and likable
- Glaze over and get lost in emotional conversations
- Love their spouse, but their spouse does not feel well known
Three types of relationships
An ATTACHER marries an ATTACHER
both work on emotional/spiritual growth and deep bonding. They feel connected.
A DETACHER marries a DETACHER
They are nice, kind and friendly. They are not emotionally close but neither needs it.
An ATTACHER marries a DETACHER
These spouses run two very different programs. The ATTACHER says I want to be close. And, lots of emotional talking will get us there. The DETACHER says we don’t need to talk all the time. Just be happy. Why can’t you ever just – Be Happy!

Bible Connection
Jesus prayed that we would all be one as he is and the Father are one.
And, he prayed that the oneness would show his glory. – See John 17:21-23
Prayer
Father, help me grow in oneness. And, may you receive all the glory. I want to live as you designed me to live. And, oneness seems to be a major part of my design. Show me new ways to grow in oneness. And, new ways to bring you glory. Amen

One response to “What Type of Marriage do you Have?”
An ATTACHER marries a DETACHER – I was the DETACHER before my addiction was discovered. I was afraid of what would happen if my wife found out and DETACHING was a way to protect myself.
With my addiction in the open, and my wife still with me we are now two ATTACHERs. I desire to be as close to my wife as possible, but the true me. The good and the bad.
